Natalia brand acquired by SP Apparels
Coimbatore-based garment exporter and retailer, S P Apparels Limited on Tuesday announced it acquired women's western wear brand 'Natalia' for an undisclosed amount.
"This acquisition of Natalia will help SPA to aggressively tap the immense potential in the women's wear market in India," the Managing Director, Mr P Sundarajan said.
Women's western wear formals and casuals are growing at a fast pace and offer a lucrative market.
However, very few well-known brands are available in the domestic retail market. Natalia targets women in the 20-35 age group, he said.

Replying to questions on the firm's future plans, he said it included aggressive marketing and opening of retail outlets in September at Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Indore, Hyderabad, Kochi and Kolkata.
He said the firm had made a successful foray into men's wear retail sector recently after its takeover of the Crocodile brand.

CODISSIA expands its facility
The CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex, located 1 km off the Avinashi Road on 40 acres, will get two new exhibition halls by the end of this year. The bhoomi puja for the expansion project was held here on Monday.
According to the president of the Coimbatore District Small Industries Association, C. Muthusami, this will double the existing exhibition space of one lakh sq.ft at the complex. The Trade Fair Complex was constructed at a cost of Rs. 11 crore and opened in 2000. It hosts a number of annual and bi-annual events. Some of them are INTEC (engineering fair), Texspares (textile machinery exhibition) and Build Expo (building exhibition). With the second phase of expansion, the complex is expected to see 60 to 80 days occupancy every year, he says.
Food court
Apart from the two additional exhibition halls, the complex will get a 30,000 sq.ft fully air-conditioned food court and a 1,500 capacity car park. The entire project will cost Rs. 24 crore and the work is entrusted to a Bangalore-based architect.
According to Mr. Muthusami, the association has approached the Small Industries Development Bank of India to finance the project. It has also sought Government assistance.
The expansion is planned because of the increasing industrial activity in the region and the need for exhibition space of international standards. In addition to the existing exhibition space, most of the organisers now put up temporary sheds on the complex grounds to house all the participants. Explaining the project, the association president says the complex now has three halls. The two new halls will be interconnected. An organiser can choose to occupy a single hall too. While the fourth one will be designed to bear the load of heavy machinery, the fifth hall will be multiple purpose. A convention centre has already been planned. The extra facilities are expected to attract organisers from other places and fairs of international interest, he says.

India and China held talk in Nilgris
India and China held talks on resolving their decades-old border row amid the sylvan surroundings of the Nilgiri hills here yesterday evening.
The Indian and Chinese delegations were ensconced at the Taj Retreat, surrounded by tall Chinars and Deodars which screened the Chinese visitors from the protests of Tibetan refugees living in the district for the last 50 years.
Chinese Special Representative Vice Foreign Minister Dai Bingguo and National Security Adviser M K Narayanan held brief discussions in New Delhi on Friday.
India’s envoy to China Nirupama Rao and her Chinese counterpart in India San Yu Si are among the 19 officials assisting the talks.
According to district administration sources, the Indian and Chinese delegations arrived by helicopter and cars at Coonoor amid tight security. While Narayanan arrived here from Coimbatore by a helicopter, the other members of the two delegations came by road from Coimbatore, travelling about 75km. The officials have asked that media not be allowed at the venue.
“We have taken all necessary precautions for such a high-profile meeting,” said collector Santosh K Misra.
Today, the Chinese delegation will visit the resort of Udhagamandalam (Ooty town).
The police have refused the Tibetans permission to hold a black flag demonstration, said Pal Jor, the president of the Tibetan Refugees Welfare Association. Dai met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Friday
