Coimbatore User Group

Two students from Sri Krishna College of Engineering have embarked upon a novel initiative. Anmol Vij and Nishanth Babu, third year B.Tech Information Technology students, have got together engineering students of various colleges and formed a Coimbatore User Group.

True to the function of user groups, this group would impart the best of technical knowledge to the engineering student fraternity and create opportunities for fruitful discussions with professionals from the industry. “The main aim of the group is updating technical knowledge and sharing recent trends in IT,” says Mr.Anmol.

125 members

Any engineering student who is interested in remaining up-to-date on the developments taking place in the technology sector can be part of the group. Currently, the group has about 125 members, all students from various engineering colleges.

“The very first meeting itself had a huge turn-out of students. This shows that the interest for IT is still very high” he adds. The members of the group, through their personal contacts, have forged ties with professionals in companies such as Microsoft, CTS, TCS, IBM and CSC. “Some of them have even agreed to conduct seminars and talk about recent trends in technology to the students,” Mr.Anmol adds. The group has an online presence too. It has a website, on which all the activities of the group would be uploaded. It is also hoping for approval from the international user group of developers who use or support the .NET standard put out by Microsoft, (iNeta).

Technical magazine

The Coimbatore User Group has plans to launch a technical magazine. This 20-page magazine would be sponsored by Shakthi Institute of Engineering and Technology.

It will contain news related to new software, technologies, hardware, technical companies and engineering colleges.

They would send 50 free copies of the magazine to every engineering college and also to IT companies in Chennai and Bangalore.

The team plans to bring out a book later that will speak about the lives of engineering students.

!They would do projects using VB, .net, Java and other languages. It would also organise group discussions about subjects in the engineering curriculum.

The team will meet every Sunday for three hours.

Avanashi Road flyover maintenance plans

The underpass beneath the Avanashi Road flyover will be repaired and opened for traffic.

The District Collector, Neeraj Mittal; the City Police Commissioner, C.K. Gandhirajan; and the Corporation Commissioner, P. Muthuveeran; along with officials of the Corporation and Highways inspected the underpass beneath the flyover.

It was decided to provide more powerful lighting at the underpass so that it will be used by motorists without fear. The police have decided to post pickets and ply patrol vehicles to deter anti-social elements from converting the underpass into a den for unlawful activities.

The officials decided to carry out patch works and re-laying of the road. Officials have decided to divert the flow of vehicles especially two-wheelers and passenger auto-rickshaws through the underpass from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Collector said that the Corporation had already done enough works for arresting the seepage of water into the underpass which turned itslushy.

Motor pump sets have been repaired to prevent flooding of the underpass during rain.
