Karunya institute in coimbatore gains university status

Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences at Coimbatore has recently been accredited as Karunya University by the University Grants Commission, according to a press note issued here.

At present, the university offers eight B.E. courses, three B. Tech programmes and 14 M. E. courses, apart from MBA, MCA and Ph.D. courses. It recently launched its food processing engineering division with the support of the Central Ministry of Food Processing that granted Rs.4 crore to set up facilities such as quality control lab.

Training centre


A food processing training centre would also be established for training agriculturists and tribal people to take up small-scale projects.

Karunya University has also recently launched School of Media Technology that offered B.Tech programme.

The university has also undertaken research for production of biomass energy from municipal, agro and industrial waste with aid from the Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy.

At present, the university has 4,600 residential students.
